MOVING PENCILS PREDICTION

EFFECT: You reveal how many pencils have been moved while your back was turned.

SECRET: Secretly put a pin hole into the eraser of a new pencil. Do this on all four sides of the pencil’s eraser and then put it back in the box of new pencils. When you show the trick, remove the ten new pencils from the box and put them down in a row. Turn you back and ask someone to move any number of pencils, one at a time, SEE BELOW

METHOD #1: Place the marked pencil at the left end of the row. Move from left end of the row to the right. When you turn around, spot the marked pencil and count from that pencil to the right end of the row to know how many have been moved.

METHOD # 2: Do the same but with the pencil at the RIGHT end.

METHOD# 3: ( MY FAVOURITE ) Place the pencil in the MIDDLE with five to the LEFT and four to the RIGHT. Ask someone to move up to FIVE of the pencils, one at a time, from the left or right BUT NOT BOTH. When you turn around, spot the marked pencil. You started with FIVE to the LEFT and FOUR to the RIGHT. If they moved to the left , how many pencils are past FIVE to the left? If they moved to the right, how many pencils are past FOUR to the right ?I like this the best because you can also tell them the direction they chose.
